Hitting the Purchase Button
Have you ever hit the purchase button and wondered if it was the right thing to do? That’s what happened to me a few weeks ago, after I was invited back to Haiti to train church leaders on “Church Growth”.
My contact in Haiti, Pastor Placide said that the conference would have to take place in Thiotte, Haiti this time as that church could accommodate the pastors and leaders who would have to sleep there. I was told that the first week of March would work, so I looked up airline tickets online and found the dates that would work the best. However, when it got to the point when I had to press the purchase button, I felt a little uneasy inside. I thought to myself, “is this the Lord saying something to me?” I decided that there was no reason to not go, so I pressed the purchase button anyway.
Six days later, Pastor Placide contacted me to ask if I could change the dates of the tickets. (I knew that I should have listened to that inner voice). I found out that it would cost an extra $200 to change my ticket, so I was very interested to find out why he would like me to come at the end of February instead. He said that the national youth convention planned to meet at that time and this convention is made up of young leaders and pastors from across Haiti. However, this year they weren’t able to get enough sponsorships to fund their conference. They then came up with the idea of joining in with the “Church Growth” conference that I was holding, but the only place that it could be held was in a town by the name of Petite Goave and the only dates that they could come was at the end of February. I thought to myself that this was indeed a “God” opportunity to reach more of the Haitian leaders with the tools that will help equip them to do the Lord’s work in their nation. Therefore, I plan to go back to Haiti at the end of next month where there is expected to be around 300 participants. I had made my plans, but it was the Lord’s will that my plans be changed. This situation reminded me of Proverbs 19:21 which says, “You can make many plans, but the LORD's purpose will prevail.”
As before, I will be paying my own way and due to your generous support for the last conference, there is enough in the 2nd Wave Ministry account to make sure that these struggling church leaders can come and be looked after, with food and lodging, while they are there. I truly believe that this is a great opportunity to make a huge difference in the lives of others and I thank you for your continuing support.
Please pray for the Spirit to move so that God’s will would be done. Also, please pray for the safety of all who are attending and that they would receive all that they need from the Lord to continue in their very important work.
